Chief investment minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan welcomed Musk’s arrival by private jet at Bali’s airport, emphasizing the importance of collaborations to enhance the country’s connectivity.

The introduction of Starlink in Indonesia aims to provide equal internet access across the country, benefiting the more than 270 million people living in three time zones. This move is especially crucial for individuals residing in remote areas, as it will allow them to experience high-speed internet similar to that in urban areas. The collaboration between Elon Musk and Indonesian President Joko Widodo signifies a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in the nation.

SpaceX’s Starlink has already obtained the necessary permits to operate in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi confirmed that the satellite unit of Musk’s SpaceX has been granted permission to operate as an internet service provider, facilitating retail consumer services. Additionally, Starlink has been authorized to provide networks through the acquisition of a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) permit, further solidifying its presence in the region.

Moreover, Starlink’s expansion into Southeast Asia demonstrates its commitment to providing reliable internet services across various regions. The utilization of Starlink in Ukraine for military, healthcare, business, and humanitarian purposes underscores its global significance and impact on critical sectors.

As Starlink continues to expand its operations globally, the partnership with Indonesia opens up opportunities for further collaborations and technological advancements. The potential for leveraging Starlink’s advanced satellite technology to enhance various sectors, including healthcare, education, and commerce, showcases the transformative power of innovative internet solutions. Moving forward, the successful implementation of Starlink in Indonesia and other regions holds promise for advancing connectivity and driving societal progress.
